You probably know where we stand (#teamRV), but what’s the best option for you?
There’s nothing better than waking up outdoors. As you step out to greet your day, you find yourself immersed in nature. There’s something about it that immediately recharges your battery.
So, what are you stepping out of? Is it a motorhome rental? Do you have to unzip your tent?
While we are partial to RV camping, we love to pitch a tent every now and then as well. After a long day of exploring the wilds, there’s nothing like walking into your house on wheels.
Still, to keep things fair, let’s look at a few of the main differences when it comes to camping. That way, you have what you need to choose for yourself.
RV vs Tents: The Setup
When it comes to setting up, tents tend to beat a motorhome. However, as you scale up to bigger tents, construction becomes more complex. Moreover, larger tents tend to require an extra pair of hands.
However, once you know what to do, it’s relatively easy to set up your RV rental. All you need is some leveling and hookups.
Flexibility While Camping
Both ease of setup and flexibility vary depending on the type of RV or tent you choose. For example, camper vans and travel trailers tend to be easy to move. Similarly, a solo tent is easier to relocate than a family-size tent.
RV vs Tent Camping: Comfort
When it comes to amenities, RVs win every time. Even when you use a smaller travel trailer, it is usually more comfortable than a tent. Moreover, many RVs come with home-like amenities:
- Kitchens
- Comfortable mattresses
- Bathrooms
Since tents are more barebones, you have to rough it a bit more or pack extra amenities.
Temperature Control
Air conditioning is another key component that gives RVs an advantage. When you rough it in a tent, you’re subject to the whims of Mother Nature. With an RV, you have heating for cooler nights and cooling for hotter days.
Additionally, you have an awning when you need a shady spot.
Safety
When it comes to RV vs tent camping, safety is another area where RVs offer a bit more protection. Whether from wildlife or the elements, you have the ability to stay inside and even lock the doors and windows.
Cooking
Everyone loves to roast marshmallows over a fire. However, not everyone wants to try to cook an entire meal by fire. Of course, it’s possible.
It’s just much easier when you have an RV kitchen to prepare food. When you have a stovetop, oven, and microwave, you have the ability to cook just about anything. Moreover, you have the option to wash your dishes.
When you camp in a tent, you have to be wary of your waste and trash. Even with your food, there’s the potential to attract unwanted critters when you don’t have a fridge.
RVs vs Tents: Bathrooms
When it comes to RV vs tent camping, another major challenge is whether your bathroom is the great outdoors, a public restroom, or your own personal bathroom. Additionally, there’s never the need to worry about whether you have to wait for a shower.
Have to go in the middle of the night? It’s much easier and much safer in an RV than to wander around the woods or off to a clubhouse.
Storage
This is a bit obvious, but it’s important. RVs offer vastly more storage than a tent. While tent camping limits you to what you can carry, a motorhome allows you to store food, cooking supplies, clothing, and other equipment.
Moreover, some RV rentals have extra external storage areas. With a tent, you have to pack up everything each time you use it.
